Lake Trasimeno

Approximately 85 kilometers southwest of Casa Bosco Lake Trasimeno is situated, the fourth largest lake in Italy. Hannibal lured the Romans into an ambush in this place in 217 BC. The ruins of the battlefield can still be seen at the town of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. Do you like more modern art? Then walk through the sculpture garden Campo del Sole, at the Lido di Tuoro.

Castiglione del Lago has overlooked Lago Trasimeno for centuries. The high city walls surround a quiet medieval village with cobbled streets, idyllic churches and an old olive tree here and there. The mighty ‘Rocca del Leone’, a pentagonal fort, rises high above the village with its four towers and triangular main tower.

You can visit two of the three islands in Lago Trasimeno: Isola Maggiore and Isola Polvese (the third island, Isola Minore, is privately owned). The Isola Polvese is the largest, a beautiful nature reserve where you can walk for hours.
