Monasteries
In many places in Italy, and also in Le Marche, medieval monasteries, abbeys, churches and chapels have been preserved. Secluded in nature, on hilltops far from the city, but especially in the middle of the historic centers of cities and villages. For example, Cagli, the town at an 8 minutes drive from Casa Bosco, has 12 churches, almost all still in use and open to the public.
About 25 km from Casa Bosco you will find a beautifully restored monastery near the village of Serra Sant’Abbondio, the Monastero / Eremo di Fonte Avellana. It is situated at 680 meters, in a densely wooded valley, at the foot of Monte Catria. The monastery is still in use by monks, who also sell products made by themselves such as acacia honey, herbal tea and liqueur. At regular times there are guided tours and from the parking lot several beautiful hikes start (signposted).
