Pesaro

Pesaro is the capital of the province of Pesaro-Urbino and certainly worth a day trip, because the environment also have much to offer. To the north you can find the San Bartolo nature reserve. You can make a nice tour along the rugged coast, where small roads take you to deserted beaches. The villages of Casteldimezzo, Gabbice Monte and Gabicce Mare are nice to visit. Fifteen kilometers north of Pesaro you will find the town of Gradara. A very special walled museum town where you can visit the beautifully preserved and partially decorated castle (rocca) where a.o. Lucrezia Borgia lived for a while. Pesaro itself offers nice shops and a nice boulevard. Architecture lovers can indulge in Art Nouveau, Liberty Nouveau and Liberty villas. Music lovers will also like Pesaro: it is the birthplace of the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini. Every year, the Rossini Opera Festival is organized in August. The most important monuments of the city are the Palazzo Ducale, the cathedral, the 14th century castle Rocca Costanza and the spherical artwork by Arnaldo Pomodoro on the Piazzale della Libertà by the sea. Piazza del Popolo is the heart of the city. Here you will find the stately Palazzo Ducale. For lunch or dinner, the oldest Osteria in town is a good place to go. Antica Osteria La Guercia can be found in an alley on Piazza del Popolo. Here you can still eat the traditional poor farmer kitchen as tasty and affordable as it always was.

Another nice thing to do in Pesaro: what could be more fun than a day cycling along the beach? Your beach stuff in the bike basket and occasionally get off for a delicious cup of Italian coffee, a nice lunch or a splash in the sea. You can park your car for € 7.00 in the parking garage Il Curvone in Pesaro and then you may use 2 bikes for free. From the parking garage you can already see and smell the sea. After a short drive through the cozy and pure Italian seaside resort of Pesaro you follow the bicycle path along the beach to Fano, another (medieval) coastal town.
